Steeped in history, the house takes its name from the Hougoumont farmhouse – a fortified position during the Battle of Waterloo. Similarly, Whitsand Bay Fort itself dates back to 1861–67, originally known as Polhawn Battery, built to protect the vital naval base at Plymouth. Located right on the South West Coast Path, it’s the perfect base for walking, wildlife spotting, and exploring historic coastal defenses.
